When it comes to bikinis, size is only one part of the equation. Breast shape plays just as big a role in how a bikini fits, feels, and flatters, much like how different body types suit different cuts of jeans or dresses.
At LOU Swim, we design specifically for small chests, but even within that, no two bodies are the same. Below is a guide to common breast shapes and which bikini top styles tend to work best, along with notes on adjustability for a more personalised fit.
Note: you can be more than one type of breast shape. For example you could have side set breasts and bell shaped breasts so finding a style that suits both features is important.

(Breasts that are full and even from top to bottom)

Round breasts work well with most styles because the shape is balanced. Triangle tops, halters, and scoop necks all tend to sit nicely.
Best styles
Triangle tops, halter neck styles, scoop neck like the Erin, and front tie styles with side panels. Sabrina works especially well as it offers triangle styling with more coverage and adjustability.
Styles to avoid
Very tight non adjustable bands like Fio or Joanne if you are sensitive to pressure around the ribcage.
(One breast slightly larger or differently shaped than the other)

Adjustability is key to achieving a balanced fit.
Best styles
Sabrina, Maria, Alexia, Mia, Millie and Daisy. Front ties and back ties allow each side to be adjusted independently.
Styles to avoid
Non-adjustable band styles like Fio, Joanne, Alexandra and Ellie, as they do not allow fine tuning between sides.
(Breasts that sit wider apart on the chest)

Side panels are extremely helpful for this shape, as they anchor the fabric and gently guide the breasts inward.
Best styles
Tori, Erin, Alexandra and Ellie due to their side panels. Front tie styles are especially flattering as they allow you to control how much you draw the bust inwards.
Styles to avoid
Minimal triangle tops without side panels, unless choosing Sabrina or Joanne for extra coverage.
(Breasts that are narrower, with minimal projection, often more muscular)

Athletic breasts often benefit from styles that add shape while still feeling lightweight.
Best styles
Triangle tops, halter neck styles like Millie and Sabrina, scoop neck styles like the Erin, and adjustable slider styles. Sabrina works well due to its added coverage without overwhelming the chest.
Styles to avoid
Very structured sweetheart styles if you prefer a softer, more natural look.
(Fuller at the bottom with narrow upper portion)

This shape needs more coverage height and support.
Best styles
Sabrina, Erin, sweetheart styles like Alexandra with side panels, and halter neck styles. These styles provide coverage and security where it is needed most.
Styles to avoid
Lower sitting styles like Ellie and Alexia, as they may not provide enough coverage for bottom fullness.
(Breasts that point outwards rather than forward)

Side panels are essential for creating a centred, balanced look.
Best styles
Tori, Erin, Alexandra and Ellie due to their side panels.
Front tie styles help gently bring the bust towards the centre.
Styles to avoid
Minimal triangle tops without side panels, as they can exaggerate outward spacing and not offer enough coverage.
(Breasts that are fuller at the bottom and gently slope at the top)

This shape benefits from styles that follow the natural curve of the breast.
Best styles
Sabrina, Millie, Erin, and scoop neck or halter neck styles with adjustability. These provide lift and support without forcing shape.
Styles to avoid
Tops that sit very low on the chest, such as Ellie and Alexia, especially if you prefer more security.

If you are between sizes, fluctuate throughout the month, or simply prefer control over your fit, adjustability can make a big difference.
More adjustable styles
- Tori and Alexia have adjustable front-ties whereas Maria and Sabrina have adjustable back ties.
- Mia, Millie and Daisy have adjustable slider on the band.
Less adjustable styles
- Fio, Joanne and Alexandra which has a fixed band that runs tighter and offers support but less flexibility.
- Erin also has a fixed band but is stretchier in the material so still offers some flexibility.
- Tori does not have adjustable shoulder straps, not recommended for those with short torsos.
In summary:

If you have less than 3-inch difference between your bust and underbust (for example 28-inch underbust and 30-inch bust) then we recommend our extra coverage bikinis such as the Tori, Ellie, Alexia and Erin for extra security around gaping. If you want extra volume, our Alexandra is a bestseller!
